If You are a Witness

One on One with the Police

If You are a Witness

If you witness a crime or an offence, we urge you to come forward and give a statement to the police. We understand that you may be reluctant to become involved but without your evidence and assistance we would find it very difficult to bring the accused to justice. If you do give a statement, we will:

  • Provide you with information about giving evidence in court;
  • Give you adequate notice when the case is to be heard in court;
  • Ensure the confidentiality of pertinent information relating to you;
  • Respect your decision in taking a stance of giving evidence in favor of or against a suspect/accused;
  • Provide you with feedback on the outcome of the case;
  • Allow you to refresh your memory from your written statements if you are unable to recall the relevant facts;
  • Inform the court of the various dates that are convenient to you to attend so that the court can decide on a suitable one for trial;
  • We will make the necessary arrangement for you to be transported to and from court on the trial date if you so desire and,
  • If you are a vulnerable witness, we will refer you to other agencies which can provide you with support and assistance.
